IUMS congratulates the Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM) with their 50th year-anniversary.

Established in 1959, the main objective of the Australian Society for Microbiology is to advance the science of microbiology in Australia.
The ASM does this through the production and promotion of reading material, lectures, seminars, symposia and demonstrations on topics relevant to microbiology, as well as establishing and maintaining suitable standards for the practice of microbiology as a profession.
ASM also promotes the awareness of microbiology and its role in everyday life, and actively liaises with governments and other professional bodies at both State and Federal levels in support of its members and the profession.
In 2009 the ASM will celebrate its 50th birthday with the production of a specially commissioned history of the Society and with special events and presentations at the Annual Scientific Meeting in Perth. The meeting in Perth will feature keynote presentations from two Nobel Laureates, Professor Harald zur Hausen and Professor Barry Marshall. Full details are available at www.theasm.com.au and www.asm2009.org.
